Current Research Projects

Andrei Stavila

My research projects are mainly situated at the intersection between political theory, migration and citizenship studies, cultural studies, and the theory of international relations; as such, they are characterized by a strong interdisciplinary approach:

(a) The first research project (situated at the intersection between political theory and citizenship studies) tries to investigate the investment-based citizenship acquisition and its possible normative foundations.

(b) The second research project (situated at the intersection between political theory and philosophy and international migration) tries to develop the normative contribution migration studies may have in resurrecting the consent theory of political obligation.

(c) A third research project (situated at the intersection between international relations theory, ethnic and racial studies, cultural studies, and migration and citizenship theory) focuses on European Roma migrants and tries to discern the political and social (national and international) relevance of their artistic practices.

(d) A fourth research project is situated at the intersection between international relations (conflict and conflict resolution), political philosophy, and cultural studies. It explores the creation of alternative transitional justice spaces in post-conflict contexts in several parts of the world. A special focus is on the memorialization processes and on the artistic memory of several traumatic events. The project discusses the intersection between memory and transitional justice, arguing that the two fields can be brought together in a certain heterotopic space.
